So, you want to become a phlebotomist? There are a few steps you need to take, and they all begin with education. There are books and courses just aimed at helping the student pass the state exam. Once you obtain your phlebotomy certification, you have to maintain it. This can be done by obtaining what are called CEU’s, continuing education units. You can receive these from attending classes at your local hospital, taking a class online, or by other means. You typically need 1-2 per year. You will send your certificates from these classes to the states when you renew your phlebotomy certificate, which must be renewed every two years.
